The movement observed on an ultrasonic instrument comprises of nodes points of minimal oscillation and anti-nodes points of maximum oscillation. This movement may be reduced by damping within the root canal but it is still highly useful in removing obstructions. Acoustic microstreaming occurring in the irrigant around the file will also help in the removal of soft pastes and other similar materials.
